Nourishment
“Food which sustains you will always give you more joy in life. Any food which pushes you is going to kill you. You don't grow old by years, you grow old by food. The bottom line is not how much you know, the bottom line is how much you eat and what you eat.” Yogi Bhajan
I encourage you to firstly read this blog with an open mind. I am aware that most of my readers are not vegan and enjoy their meat with pleasure. 🙏
Yogi Bhajan stated in his lecture from 1992, “To begin with, all food was considered as human medicine. Food is the medicine which creates equilibrium. That is the beauty of food. The basic properties of a food must be that it should be nutritious, sustaining, and balanced. Balanced food is that food which can be digested without drawing on your health. It should not put a strain on the body. We take medicines to get rid of disease. What does medicine do? It fights the disease and gives the body a chance to recuperate. What is a medicine? It is a sustaining food. Chemical medicines are produced because they are inexpensive. The difference between organic medicine and chemical medicine is that chemical medicine is direct, while organic medicine is indirect. Organic medicine affects us slowly but its effects are long term.“
Seven years ago, I found myself eating a very unhealthy diet. Although I’d never cared much for eating red meat or pork, I was convinced that meat was the only way to get protein into my system. The bottom line is, no matter how much I ate, I never seemed to have any energy and I was constantly feeling weighed down, heavy and tired.
“Despite the fact that meat is full of nutrients, it also contains a number of natural chemical toxins, saturated fat, and elements that make it difficult for us to digest. Eating too much meat can lead to serious consequences from increasing the risk of diabetes to heart disease and even cancer. Meat products are one of the most difficult foods for the human body to digest because the protein contained in meat (especially red meat) is harder for us to break down, and this can cause bloating. Large amounts of fatty foods like meat make your stomach empty slower, which also causes bloating or discomfort. Improper digestion of meat can lead to the accumulation of toxins in the body. 10 signs of not digesting meat include: bloating, nausea, fatigue, weakened immune system, bad breath, body odor, high blood pressure, dark circles under the eyes, constantly feeling hungry and constipation.” @mayoclinic
Plant based diets are becoming increasingly popular as a result of diabetes, heart disease and cancer rates rising. I started a plant based diet with no gluten, no dairy and no meat. Now, I have more energy, no sinus infections, I’m not constantly hungry, I have more energy and I’m not bloated.
My prayer for you today is that you will think before you eat. Eat mindfully and think about how the food you put in your body is effecting your health. If you are going to eat meat please eat sustainably raised meat from organic farms. The way an animal is treated effects the way we feel when we eat it.
