Today as I walked the beach at sunrise I found a purple sand dollar. A purple sand dollar signifies the spirit of life. Anyone that knows me knows I have a contagious energetic spirit for life. I love life, I love helping people and I love smiling and saying hello to anyone I pass along my path — especially in the morning.

When in Bali, it is customary in the morning to say, “Selamat Pagi”. This simple greeting says, “Good Morning”. It is my absolute favorite time of day as I pass each person and with a smile I greet them! It really touches me that this culture engages saying, “Selamat Pagi” in return. Often a longer conversation continues in local dialect, but I’ll leave that for another blog.

It’s a cultural norm here.... honestly if you are a local and pass without saying good morning to each other it would be odd. In America, however, we have lost the simple human connection of simply saying hello to each other — even strangers. When I do this practice in the states it works and people always respond with a smile. This simple act fills me up with a rich sense of love and belonging.

My card from the Inner Compass Cards deck today was Plenty. I can honestly say my life is rich. No, not in the way people relate to the word rich. I am rich in spirit, just as the sand dollar represents.

I honestly have never cared about money. I have been told by many people that I will go broke by being so generous. I give to people in need wherever I am in the world. What can I say.... I don’t live in scarcity and God has always provided. I have never worried that I would go without, but I have always longed for others to have more.

Yogi Bhajan said “Prosperity only comes to those who are trustworthy, those who deliver and those who are content and consistent…If you put your soul into anything, you can win the whole world.” He also said, “When you give, you get…Any offering given in the name of God or any offering given in the self-exertion of the unknown multiplies faster than an offering in time and space.”

Rich in spirit is enough for me, carries me through life and is truly ALL I need. Smiling is contagious. When you smile and say hello to people they can see the light and you might just brighten their day. In fact, I know you will.

Today I encourage you to say hello, smile and fill your life with the richness that only comes from God. You can’t buy that.
